Jennifer Robertson will teach Fiber, Water and Magic, a paper-making workshop, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., October 6, at Sandalwood and Sage, in Norman. This workshop will be taught in tandem with Robertson’s show of handmade paper masks, Fiber, Water and Magic—Masks to Explore Our Place in the World, which begins October 3. A public reception will take place during the Norman Second Friday Art Walk from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., October 12.
Paper may be made with the fibers of virtually any plant and by recycling cotton, linen, dryer lint or paper. This ancient craft offers a welcome contrast to the high-tech influences that permeate our culture today and provides attendees with another way to minimize their global footprint. Robertson will discuss methods for preparing plant material from the garden and instructions for building the equipment needed to make paper. She will demonstrate how to use homemade paper to make masks, greeting cards, boxes and other objects. Attendees will primarily use recycled paper due to time constraints.
Workshop cost: $25.
