Groomers Use Music to Calm Nervous Pets

The holistic groomer at EarthWise Pet Supply, in Oklahoma City, uses music to soothe nervous animals in the grooming area, as well as relaxing essential oil blends and pheromones. This practice helps to create a low-stress environment for pets that are new to grooming or those that have had a bad experience in the past.

Research shows that classical music helps reduce stress in kenneled dogs. In addition, a study done by the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals suggests that dogs can benefit from playing a variety of music when in a new environment. Classical, reggae and soft rock proved to be the best music for canines in high-stress situations.

“Being bathed, held and cleaned may be too much for some dogs, but with the help of scientifically proven music and natural calming aids, it can be a much more pleasant experience,” explains Manager Kyla Patterson. “We encourage pet parents to apply these tools at home, either during storms, for separation anxiety, for newly adopted pets who may need a little time adjusting, or simply to make your home a more relaxing environment.”
