Strengthening Organ Vitality

“My family genetically suffers from weak hearts, and virtually all my relatives have died from heart failure,” explains Naturopathic Doctor Randy Lee, owner of The Health Patch. “So, for many years I have taken supplements to strengthen my heart. During an angiogram a few years back, my doctor commented that I ‘should have died five years ago, but [my] heart is incredibly strong.’ What did I use? Hawthorn berries and the amino acid L-arginine are essential to strengthen the heart. And, of course, exercise is essential, especially cardio exercises.”

The heart is not the only organ critical to our health. The lungs are also vital. Herbs, such as astragalus, licorice root, ginger and holy basil, and essential oils of ravintsara, thyme and myrtle support the lungs, along with eucalyptus oil, menthol and camphor.

To support the liver and kidneys, we must do our best to stay away from toxic environments and cut our consumption of sugar, excess alcohol, drugs and tobacco. For those working in toxic environments, regular liver cleanses are critical, along with supporting supplements, like milk thistle with its silymarin and dandelion for moving water. Both organs also need a healthy dose of B6, and N-acetyl-L-cysteine helps the liver.

The pancreas, another critical organ, needs a generous dose of trace minerals. It also benefits from combinations of anti-inflammatory herbs, such as slippery elm bark, garlic, golden seal, dandelion, marshmallow and juniper berries.

All of our organs are vital for a truly balanced life, and regular cleansing and detoxifying is good for the entire system. They will all be strengthened by careful care, good nutrition, exercise and proper supplements.
